In addition to summer classes in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and hip-hop, North Carolina Dance Institute offers a variety of summer performance workshops, intensives, and dance camps for children and teens of all levels.

Registration opened March 21.
Camp costs are shown for each camp and the annual NCDI $25 registration fee may apply. Family and multi-camp discounts are available. Refunds can be issued up to 2 weeks prior to the start of any camp, intensive, or summer session classes. Simply register online and mail the payment to confirm your enrollment. Our summer camps fill quickly – register early to secure your spot!

Summer Showcase Dance Intensive

The highlight of our summer session begins with the NCDI Summer Showcase. A two week dance intensive featuring high-energy jazz, modern, ballet, and hip-hop choreography by NCDI faculty and guest artists culminates in a performance at Wakefield Auditorium. It is a great performance opportunity for NCDI dancers and open to other dancers in our community. Auditions are required for casting placement.

Auditions held March 14 and May 9 (2pm-3pm).

Summer Showcase Intensive
Time: June 15-26 (Mon-Fri) and June 27 (Sat)
   Dancers 9-12 yrs rehearse 9:00am-1:00pm Mon-Fri
   Dancers 13-18 yrs rehearse 12:30pm-4:00pm Mon-Fri
Performance: Saturday June 27 6:30pm
    Wakefield High School Auditorium
Ages: 9-12 yrs and 13-18 yrs (see Time above)
Level: Intermediate/Advanced (by audition only)

Jazz Boot Camp

Spend a week exploring jazz choreography in a fast-paced and fun dance intensive for beginner dancers. NCDI faculty focuses on strength training, enhancing flexibility and skills moving through space. High-energy jazz-style choreography make this camp very popular. Attire: Black leotard, jazz pants, black jazz shoes.

Students often take the Ballet Basics Boot Camp followed Jazz Boot Camp to make a full-day camp opportunity with lunch at NCDI.

Ballet intensives are for the beginner to the serious-minded ballet student and strive to develop the complete dancer. NCDI encourages all students who wish to be in higher placement classes for the fall semester to participate in a ballet intensive.


Summer Ballet Intensive

The Summer Ballet Intensive is an intensive training experience designed for aspiring young dancers. Students spend an in-depth week guided through intense technical classes and challenging classical repertoire. The aim is to give each dancer a solid technical foundation upon which to push themselves to their fullest potential in ballet. Our faculty provides a positive and thorough approach to training intermediate level dancers. Classical ballet attire is required (black leotard/pink tights), with hair worn in a bun. Please bring a healthy snack.

Students often take the Choreo-Lab Intensive followed by the Summer Ballet Intensive for a full-day camp opportunity with lunch at NCDI.

Level: Intermediate (2-3 yrs ballet experience required)
   Non-NCDI students are required to take
   a placement class during spring semester.

Ballet Basics Boot Camp

The Ballet Basics Boot Camp is a fast-paced introduction of ballet fundamentals and conditioning for the body. A fun format led by Ms. Melissa will give students boot camp exercises to practice throughout the summer. This camp is designed for the student who has an interest in ballet and wants to further their knowledge in an accelerated week of ballet fundamentals. Classical ballet attire is required (black leotard/pink tights). Bring a healthy snack.

Students often take the Ballet Basics Boot Camp followed by Jazz Boot Camp to have a full-day camp opportunity with lunch at NCDI.

Children's Ballet Intensive

This fun ballet camp for children 6 to 9 years old will cover ballet fundamentals and stagecraft exploration with stage make-up and costumes. Nutcracker in July! Young dancers who are interested in auditioning for Carolina Ballet's The Nutcracker will benefit from this ballet intensive. Classical favorites from the Nutcracker will be presented in an exciting showcase for parents at NCDI on Friday at 11:30am. Black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers are required. Bring a healthy snack. Costumes will be provided by NCDI. These camps sell out quickly.

Pre-Pointe Primer

Students recommended for Pre-Pointe classes for Fall 2015 should participate in the Pre-Pointe Primer. Pointe shoes should be purchased, fitted, and sewn prior to the primer. Please e-mail Kirstie for placement questions.

Triple Threat Broadway Workshop

NCDI alumna Emily Nicolau (photo by Rick McCullough) Broadway bound? You need training in singing, acting and dancing! Sarah Putterman leads a packed workshop of the “Triple Threat” techniques. Learn Broadway dance numbers from Hairspray, Chicago and more. Informational seminars on getting a talent agent, headshots, resumes, and vocal training.

The Triple Threat Broadway Workshop includes learning two monologues, an audition song and upbeat choreography. Learn what it takes to make it in show business!

"Frozen" Dance Camp

NCDI students (photo by Ken Wolf)Back by popular demand! North Carolina Dance Institute offers an imaginative and creative arts camp for children. Each fun-filled day will feature dancing to the songs from Frozen and creating art works. The day wraps up with lunch bunch (please provide a packed lunch for your dancer). We finish the week with a special mini-performance of "Frozen" for our parents and grandparents! All craft materials and costumes are supplied by NCDI. Pink leotards, skirts, tights, and leather ballet slippers are required. This is an inspiring summer camp experience for the budding young artist who loves to dance!
