2004 NCDI Summer Dance Explosion

An excerpt from the program from the Artistic Director's Note:
Many young dancers get their first glimpse of dance through “The Nutcracker”. Dazzled by graceful dancers, beautiful costumes, and inspiring classical music, young dancers go home with dreams of dancing the role of Clara or the Sugar Plum Fairy. I was inspired to give the old classical Christmas Ballet a summertime facelift – or at least a cheesy Botox grin! Combining great disco music, summer themes and a rock star, “Cray Laken”, we began developing North Carolina Dance Institute’s “The Cracked Nut.” So, here we are three weeks later with a ton of laughs and hard work behind us. We hope you enjoy watching the show as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.

Want to dance and perform this summer?
The NCDI Summer Dance Explosion is a 3-week intensive summer dance camp that culminates in a live theatrical dance production and serves as the NCDI bi-annual dance production. The Summer Dance Explosion will be a collaborative choreographic effort by Kirstie Tice and the excellent staff of NCDI instructors and several NCDI students. It is a great performance opportunity for NCDI dancers and other dancers in our community, and each production is unique and original. See photos from the 2002 Summer Dance Explosion.
Rehearsals are scheduled June 7 through June 27, 2004.
Dancers are divided by age into 2 groups that rehearse daily for 3 weeks.
Dancers (9-12 years) rehearse 9:00am-12:00pm Monday - Friday.
Dancers (13-17 years) rehearse 1:00pm-4:00pm Monday -Friday.
Dancers will be required to attend all rehearsals, plus the following:
Rehearsal Thursday, June 24, 9:00am-4:00pm.
Rehearsal Friday, June 25, 9:00am-4:00pm.
Performance Sunday, June 27, 6:30pm.
SDE Tuition: 3-week camp is $400.
Refundable 2 weeks prior to June 7. Non-refundable thereafter.
$200.00 deposit due by April 1. $200.00 balance due by May 1.
10% family discount for students of the same immediate family.
Costumes will be minimal and at no cost or low cost to families.
Parents receive two free tickets to the performance.

Audition results will be posted March 15 and May 3.
All students will need to audition for placement.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to register and receive a number. Please wear dance attire and jazz shoes or ballet slippers. Short sequences of jazz and ballet choreography will be taught to the dancers, who will then audition in groups of four. Please note that the Summer Dance Explosion is not a camp for beginners and some ballet training is required. Dancers need to have an intermediate level of study and currently participating in dance classes either at NCDI or elsewhere. Dancers from other area studios participated in the 2002 Summer Dance Explosion and we welcome any intermediate to advanced level dance students to audition. Dancers should have ballet training and be capable of performing choreography presented during the audition. NCDI encourages
