In addition to the summer dance classes, North Carolina Dance Institute offers a variety of summer performance workshops, intensives, and dance camps for children and teens of all levels. Registration began March 5. Payment is due at the time of registration. Camp costs are shown for each camp and the annual NCDI $20 registration fee may apply. Refunds can be issued up to 2 weeks prior to the start of any camp, intensive, or summer session classes. Please fill out a Summer Registration Form and submit payment when registering. The 2006 Summer Showcase Intensive is a two-week intensive summer dance camp that culminates in a live theatrical dance production. This Summer Showcase Intensive will be a celebration of NCDI’s 5th year with jazz choreography by Kirstie Spadie, modern choreography by Ashley Lindsey, and classical ballet choreography by our faculty. It is a great performance opportunity for NCDI dancers and open to other dancers in our community. See photos from the 2004 Summer Dance Explosion and our 2005 Summer Showcase. Summer Ballet Intensives
Summer Ballet Intensives are very popular at NCDI. The Classical Ballet Intensive with Max Baud is a concentrated program for the serious ballet student. The Contemporary Ballet Intensive with Jennifer James Rhoades will explore technique and choreography. The Children’s Ballet Intensive will inspire the young dancer and it culminates in a performance showcase for the parents at NCDI. Ballet Basics provides a great introduction or review of ballet fundamentals. Required attire includes black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers. Hair should be worn in a bun. NCDI encourages all students who wish to be in higher placement classes for the fall semester to participate in a ballet intensive. Ballet intensives are for the beginner to the serious minded ballet student and strive to develop the complete dancer. |
Classical Ballet Intensive with Pennsylvania Ballet’s Maximilien Baud
Max Baud, former Carolina Ballet dancer and current professional dancer with Pennsylvania Ballet, leads the Classical Ballet Intensive for the serious student. Max will be creating new choreography for NCDI. Students should come prepared for a packed three hours of technique and choreography. Please bring a healthy snack. Classical ballet attire is required (black leotard and pink tights), with hair worn in a bun.
The week concludes with a performance held at NCDI on Friday, June 30, 4:30pm.

This fun ballet camp for children 5-8 yrs will cover ballet fundamentals and stagecraft exploration with stage make-up and costumes. Creative choreography designed for children will be presented in a showcase for parents at NCDI. A performance will be held on Friday, July 14, at 11:30am. Any color leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers are required. Please provide a mid-morning snack and a juice box for your child. Ballerina costumes will be provided by NCDI.

Ballet Basics Intensive II
The Ballet Basics Intensive II is a fast-paced review of ballet fundamentals and proper body placement. Students will explore dance combinations that travel through space and learn choreography. This camp is designed for the student who has some knowledge of ballet fundamentals and wants to further their knowledge in a fast-paced week of study. Ms. Sue Peterson joins the NCDI faculty from the Royal Ballet School, London, England.

Pre-Pointe Primer
Get your feet ready for the fall semester! Our Pre-Pointe Primer takes the new pointe student through all the steps needed for starting pointe. A one-hour ballet class warms the body, and it is followed by a pointe session at the barre. Pointe shoes are required and should be fitted properly and sewn before the Pre-Pointe Primer begins. Ms. Sue Peterson joins the NCDI faculty from the Royal Ballet School, London, England. Please direct inquiries regarding the purchase and fitting of pointe shoes to Kirstie at least two weeks before the camp.

Creative Arts Dance Camps
North Carolina Dance Institute offers an imaginative and creative arts camp for 3-5 yrs. Children will dance along with their favorite fairy tales and create dance-related artistic crafts. Each fun-filled day will consist of a 45-minute dance class, a creative reading snack break, and followed by the completion of their very own artwork. All craft materials, costumes and snacks are supplied by NCDI. Pink leotards, skirts and leather ballet slippers are required for Creative Arts Dance Camp. Tights are not required during the summer months. This is an inspiring summer camp experience for the budding young artist who loves to dance! Only 10 students permitted. |
